Once the sanitation and exclusion problems have been addressed, the next order of business is to eliminate the flying insects inside the facility. We offer an arsenal of insect light traps for both sensitive and non-sensitive areas. We will survey the facility and recommend the type and quantity of insect light traps as well as the most strategic placements. After that has been established, we will then install these units and maintain them on a twelve-month full service lease program. The regular monthly maintenance will include emptying catch traps, cleaning the unit, replacement of glueboards, and changing the UV light bulbs on an annual schedule.
Houseflies
The female housefly usually mates once and then stores the sperm for later use. She lays batches of around 100 eggs on decaying organic matter such as garbage, decaying flesh of dead animals or feces. Soon these eggs hatch into legless white maggots which after 2 to 5 weeks transform into reddish-brown pupae, about 8 mm (0.3 in) in length. Adult flies live for about 2 to 4 weeks but can hibernate in the winter months. Adult flies feed on a variety of liquid or semi liquid substances beside solid materials which have been softened by saliva. Adult flies primarily carry pathogens on their legs and the hairs of their body. It is also found in their feces and can contaminate food and contribute to the transfer of food borne illnesses including Shigella spp, Salmonella and Tuberculosis. For these reasons they are considered pests, but have been used in the laboratory in research into ageing and sex determination.
